FAQ

How can Vander Vliet Advanced Dental Care help?

There are a number of ways that we can help you find relief from your TMJ pain. We will first take a look at your teeth & jaw to see if there is any misalignment or other problems that could be causing or contributing to the pain. We may recommend splint therapy, which is a mouthguard-like appliance that you wear at night to protect your teeth from grinding & help keep your jaw in alignment. If your TMJ is caused by arthritis, we may recommend medications or other treatments. We may also refer you to a physical therapist who can assist with reducing the TMJ pain.

FAQ

How can I help relieve my TMJ pain at home?

There are a few things you can do at home to help relieve your TMJ pain. Avoiding hard & chewy foods can help reduce the pain & inflammation. Ice can also help reduce the swelling & pain. Over-the-counter medications such as ibuprofen & acetaminophen can also help with the pain. If you grind your teeth at night, we may recommend that you wear a mouthguard to protect your teeth & help keep your jaw in alignment. Relaxation techniques such as yoga or meditation can also help to reduce stress & tension in the jaw muscles.
