2025 July Newsletter

It’s Summertime… and the Livin’ is Easy…

Summer vacation is upon us!  We will be closed from Friday July 4th through Sunday July 13th and we will reopen on Monday July 14th.  There will be covering dentists on only select days during this time, so if you have a true dental emergency that cannot wait until we return, their contact information will be on our voicemail with the available dates.

Healthy Tips for July 4th Fun….

As you enjoy the cookouts and fireworks this 4th of July, don’t forget your smile is part of the celebration too.  A few mindful choices can make all the difference in protecting your teeth while still enjoying everything the holiday brings.  From sticky desserts to soda, many Independence Day favorites can wreak havoc on your dental health.  Here’s how to enjoy the treats without putting your teeth at risk:

-Limit Sugary snacks: Cookies, candy, and other sweets can cause plaque buildup and lead to cavities.

-Choose fruit over fizz: Swap out sugary drinks for water or naturally sweetened beverages with slices of citrus or berries.

-Stay away from sticky foods: Taffy and caramel might be tasty, but can stick in the grooves of your teeth and cause decay.

-Practice moderation: Enjoy your favorite treats, but try to consume them with meals rather than throughout the day to reduce acid exposure.

-Drink plenty of water: Water helps rinse away food particles, sugar, and acid buildup.

-Avoid dry mouth: A dry mouth increases bacteria growth and tooth decay. Stay hydrated, especially if you’re drinking alcohol or spending hours in the sun.

-Brush and floss thoroughly: remove food particles and plague that have built up throughout the day.

-Don’t use your teeth as tools: Opening bottles or tearing snacking snack bags with your teeth can result in chips or cracks.

-Be cautious with corn on the cob: while delicious, biting too hard can damage fillings or sensitive teeth.

-Avoid chewing ice: It may feel refreshing, but it can wear down enamel or break a tooth.

Has Your Dental Insurance Changed?

When you come in for your visit, please let us know if your dental insurance has changed.  Some dental insurance policies change or renew mid-year instead of January.  This will save a great deal of time and have a higher degree of accuracy when discussing your coverage.

Dental Fun Fact

People who drink 3 or more glasses of soda each day have 62% more tooth decay, fillings, and tooth loss than others.
